EXHIBITION

Naisia maailmalta - sisua Suomeen  (”Women from the world – New Finnish grit”)
 
A wonderful photo exhibition in banner format about 11 women who have moved to Finland from ten different countries. The women were portrayed by photographer Sanna Peurakoski and the interview-based texts were written by cultural anthropologist Sanni Sivonen. The exhibition was realized as a part of the project “Naisia maailmalta – sisua Suomeen” (“Women from the world – New Finnish grit”). Kassandra carried out the project in cooperation with the Helinä Rautavaara Museum and Unifem Finland, funded by a grant from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The exhibition has been presented in 20 places and it can be ordered from:

The galleries present works from the women artists who participated in the ESF project  ”Monita – Artists from many cultures”. Artist presentations are also included.

•  Monita’s three-part dvd-series
 
Monita’s Training Programmes (1/3), Saturday Art Events (2/3) and Monita’s Performances (3/3) are gripping illustrations of artistic work across cultural borders. These dynamic documentaries are filled with the joy of cooperation and the power of art. Directed by Katja Gauriloff. Year of completion: 2007.

Naisen rajat (”Woman’s Limits”)
 
A three-part documentary and discussion series in dvd format, produced in collaboration with TV-1 as a part of the Monita project. The professionally made “Always Someone’s Daughter”, “Somali Stamina” and “Not Only Pushkin!” have a duration of one hour each. They portray the reality of new Finnish women in Finland from a variety of perspectives. The discussions are led by Ritva Siikala. The documentaries are directed by Ghadi Boustani, Shukri Omar Ahmed and Maria Lappalainen. These programmes gathered more than 1 million viewers in 2006.

Suomineidon monet kasvot (”Many Faces of the Finland Maiden”)

The documentary creates a vivid portrait of three workshop leaders: Hamdi Moalim, Viola Pekkanen and Pilar Valdivia. Duration 22 minutes. Directed by Inka-Maria Achté and Marika Väisänen. Year of completion 2006.

Monta iloa (”Many joys”)
 
A video on the activities of Kassandra in its early days. Directed by Jean Bitar. Duration 25 minutes. Year of completion 2003.

”At a Shared Table – a guide to multicultural encounters” is a useful booklet for anyone interested in collaborating across cultural borders. Prepared in cooperation with the Martha Organization as a part of the Monita project.

Why Not?
 
”Why not?” was the international section of the Monita project: The experiences and recommendations for empowering women under the threat of social exclusion compiled in a single catalogue. Available in Finnish and English.

The first work by Kassandra’s Executive Director and Theatre Director Ritva Siikala. In this ficticious autobiography she tells the gripping tale of her development from a post-war Finland into her multicultural present. (Like, 2004)
